<image:title>HangryTV - Chris Lilly, Pitmaster and Owner Big Bob Gibson BBQ</image:title>
<image:caption>He’s been called “a true ambassador to the outdoor cooking world”, so let Pitmaster Chris Lilly, give you some inspiration for your 4th of July BBQ. As they say at BBG’s BBQ, “Everyone knows that Bar-b-q is good for your heart and hickory smoke is good for your soul”. We were lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time at the Big Apple BBQ, and got the full story from Chris Lilly himself. From the rub ingredients, to the overnight rendering, to the creation of the “charcoal moisture flavour the keeps the pork from drying out”, we were in awe of not only his precision set up, but also his ability to explain the process to the uninitiated such as ourselves. We can’t get to Dectaur, Alabama quick enough to eat our way through the entire restaurant.</image:caption>

      <image:title>HangryTV - Tartine Manufactory</image:title>
<image:caption>Like walking into an art directors mind, Tartine is so beautiful it's hard to take it all in- the bread ovens are huge and turning out perfect loaves, yet the bakers are perfectly attired, not a hair out of place, clothes immaculate and not a bead of sweat. Someone created the future at the corner of 18th and Alabama and we stepped into it. The chocolate cake was like a flowerless brownie with beautifully airated creme on top. The creme caramel - is as god intended it- eggy custard w glorious light burnt sugar syrup at the bottom. The avocado toast on rye is open faced, Danish style in keeping with our last months theme. Chewy rye bread, spicey, tangy pepitas - like everything else, beautifully presented</image:caption>

      <image:title>HangryTV - Estia's Sag Harbor</image:title>
<image:caption>Roadside Americana is a disappearing but Estia’s is keeping it alive in Sag Harbor. Best breakfasts, beautiful garden, easy to park. Downside? It’s small and there can be a wait. There is an overall Mexican influence to all the dishes, which just makes them even that much better. We had George’s Ranch, an open face tortilla with eggs, in honor of our local friend Berns. It’s his favorite and now it's ours. We also had the shrimp quesadilla. Simple, yet gorgeous. Definitely try their house made salsas. The local, fresh ingredients really take it to a new level.</image:caption>

      <image:title>HangryTV - Red Hook Winery</image:title>
<image:caption>91 outside? No problem, we keep it cool in New York harbor, drinking orange wine and cabernet franc at Red Hook Winery. The orange wine is technically white with prolonged skin contact and is skin fermented. That’s what creates that glorious color and complex taste. Our glass from the North Fork was rich and sporty. The cabernet franc, also from the North Fork, was alive and buoyant, but that could be influenced as we’re sitting back, looking out at the buoys in the harbor and the sailboats under the Verrazano Bridge. Feeling proud to have our own winery in NYC</image:caption>

<image:title>HangryTV - Jajaja Plantas Mexicanas, East Broadway NYC</image:title>
<image:caption>Vegan food. There I said it, unless you’re vegan or have heart issues and have to be vegan like Bill Clinton, rare is the person who’s excited for a full meal of plant-based food. It’s usually lacking one or all of the basics, texture, flavour, presentation or umami. So when you get team JAJAJA, you lose your tiny little vegetarian mind and your taste buds do back flips. Complex flavours and textures that stand-alone. They’re not trying to mimic meat, but to bring the complexity that meat adds to meals and they win on all fronts. The nachos were as visually exciting as they were to eat. The mezcal mushroom tacos were everything you want from a mushroom base and the tinga tostada trio was awesome, especially the hemp queso. We didn’t have time to start day drinking….highly recommended though the Matcha Coconut Martini is… but we will find the time, day or night soon!</image:caption>

<image:title>HangryTV - Chanson Dessert Bar (they have food too)</image:title>
<image:caption>Cake! Pastries! All you’ve ever wanted in life is a dessert bar. Sometimes you just have to eat cake and Chanson is a pretty awesome place to do it. The Strawberry éclair came right out of the kitchen, the crème was as if spun by angels… dive into that. The mango coconut is just fluffy and the Kouignamann is basically a carmelised butter and sugar on a fluffy brioche-y, croissant-y delivery vehicle. After a frenzy of cake, we realised that but we didn’t try the chocolate éclair yet. We’ll be back, because, you know, priorities.</image:caption>

      <image:title>HangryTV - Los Tacos No. 1</image:title>
<image:caption>Hands down, best West Coast Mexican food in NY. Fresh, hand-made tortillas set the stage for all the flavours to settle into that classic mix of smoked meat, tangy fresh lime, bright onions, spices and guacamole richness. It’s packed for a reason but the line moves quickly and there’s food gold at the end of it.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In the other spare five minutes we had in San Francisco, we had to pay homage to the best Mexican food in SF. <image:title>HangryTV - Sons of Thunder</image:title>
<image:caption>A riot of freshness. The beet bowl is layers of mixed textures, the beets cooked to perfection while keeping their structure. The cucumber is fresh, the rice is infused with sesame and ginger, and the garlic crunchies are just perfect. We loved the octopus and the tofu as well. Salmon is their most popular poke by far. They go through 8 boxes of fresh salmon a day. We’re saving that for next time as we had to save room for the organic soft serve ice creme. Rich full fat organic milk and stabilizer free, it’s summer in a cup</image:caption>

<image:title>HangryTV - Goa Taco, killing it on Delancy</image:title>
<image:caption>“Wait, what was that?” said my brain. “That can’t be as good as it tastes right?” Once we passed sensory delight overload phase, we, my brian and I, moved into the realisation that, yes, it really and truly tastes that good. The base is a paratha that is equally light and fluffy as it is crunchy and buttery. The hangry.tv eating club had the house made chicken chorizo, which was wow, and the paneer with spinach pesto was just lovely, summery and awesomely fresh. We can’t wait to go back for more.</image:caption>

      <image:title>HangryTV - Tacos El Rancho</image:title>
<image:caption>We made the pilgrimage and went to pay homage to this years Vendy winner, Tacos El Rancho in Sunset Park and we’re so glad we did. They’re so nice. The tacos are delicious. We had the fresh sautéed vegetarian, with avocado and cotilla cheese on top and the pork and chicken. Their salsas are truly pace setters. The red will blow your mind. If that weren’t enough, they’re partnered with a food store with a spectacular butcher that also has the biggest wall of chilies we’ve ever seen. Wonder what their next iteration will be?</image:caption>

      <image:title>HangryTV - Two Tablespoons</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s getting exponentially better but is still difficult to get amazing vegetarian/ vegan food. Prep takes time; getting the umami right takes time. When we find a place that gets it right, we get so excited. We had two rolls- the quinoa, raisin, kale in masala dressing which was gentle and lovely and the corn roll: quinoa, arugula, cabbage, with cilantro lime dressing - delicious</image:caption>

      <image:title>HangryTV - Fete Sau, Williamsburg</image:title>
<image:caption>Vegetarians and vegans, look away now. This is the high pro glow writ large. Even the baked beans have pork and beef in them… (so good) Cara kills it with her broccoli salad and Dante brings it with his potato salad, but the stars of the show are the meat. We had Canadian wild boar, brisket and pork ribs. The boar was notably, superbly awesome. We washed it all down with The People’s Zin, a Zinfandel from CA, a delicious and yet socially responsible and sustainable wine. I don’t know how, but we were hungry again the next day…. We live to eat</image:caption>
